So you finally did it – you’re taking the leap to start your own company and I am so proud of you for that! And if you don’t mine I’d like to take away at least one of the many emotions you’re feeling right now (overwhelmed). I’d like to do that by giving you a starter checklist to make sure you’re set and ready to hit the publish button.
So without further ado, let’s get to it:
- Buy your domain from a website like “GoDaddy” – it’s like $11 for a year. Therefore no one can take your name and you can create a website with it.
- Determine if you want to be classified as an LLC or Sole Proprietor. (I’m not a lawyer, obviously, so do your research!)
- File an application to get your EIN (Employee Identification Number). This will help you be identified for tax purposes (yay taxes!)
- Open up a business bank account or a separate savings account. You’ll want to keep your business money and personal money separate for the sake of being organized.
- Get a sellers permit if your state requires one (especially if you’re selling a product such as clothes, etc.)
- Extra Tip: Keep your records! And again, DON’T mix business with personal!
And there you have it! These tips will have you up and running in no time. So good luck and remember to always pay your taxes!
